AlUla (prounounced Al-ooo-la) is a historic oasis city in north-western Saudi Arabia which serves as the namesake for the team. Famed for its dramatic sandstone cliffs, Nabataean tombs, ancient rock art and modern cultural festivals, AlUla has ambitions to boost global presence through its partnership with the team.

The RaceBird livery is a nod to AlUla and its rewilding project. The leopard print design is linked to the Royal Commission for AlUla and its plans to bring the critically endangered Arabian leopard back to its native habitat. Fewer than 200 Arabian leopards are believed to exist making it the rarest leopard subspecies in the world.

There’s two further reasons behind the green and gold colour scheme which fans may not know about. Firstly, green is LeBron’s favourite colour and the gold on the canopy is there to help reduce the cockpit temperature. Indeed, gold reflects heat extremely well – which is why it’s used on astronaut visors and spacecraft coatings, to reduce heating from the sun

The team clothing is made from recycled ocean plastic! Every single shirt that the team wears has helped pull plastics out of the ocean and protect the marine environment.

While Lagos in Nigeria has occasionally hosted significant regional sporting events, such as athletics and badminton tournaments, the E1 race will mark the first major international sporting event to be held there. About 22% of Lagos is covered by lagoons and creeks, earning it its nickname: “Venice of Africa”.
